Christmas countdown in the UK: The best beauty advent calendars for 2014

Who of us doesn’t recall traditional advent calendars with chocolates inside? Although addressed mostly to children, there’re also many adults who love the idea of counting down to Christmas, but not necessarily have a need of eating sweets every day. Luckily for them there’re many variations of these calendars from other industries which will satisfy even the most fastidious customers. Companies and marketing specialists outdo each other with new ideas (especially during the holiday season) and of course I couldn’t not show you the examples that intrigue me, as well as delight me the most. And as you may guess, they’re of course calendars filled with… beauty products!

1. Benefit Cosmetics  Candy-Coated Countdown

Benefit’s Candy-Coated Countdown advent calendar is filled with miniature-sized samples of the brand’s bestsellers (skincare products and makeup cosmetics) plus other beauty accessories. It costs £60 but it’s worth £109 and is (or rather was) available at benefitcosmetics.co.uk and Debenhams.

2. The Body Shop  24 Days of Joy

The Body Shop's advent calendar contains 24 mini-sized bestsellers and brand new products. It costs £50 but the products it contains have a value of £83. And the company deserves great praise, because for every calendar sold they will make a donation to charity War Child, which provides education for kids in a conflict-torn areas. It’s available at TheBody Shop and in store.

3. Ciaté Mini Mani Manor

Ciaté’s Mini Mani Manor advent calendar contains 24 nail polishes (23 mini and 1 full-size): best-selling shades, texture polishes and festive nail transfers. It costs £49.00 and is still available at CiatéBoots,  SpaceNK, JohnLewis  and Selfridges.

4. Selfridges Enchanted Spells

Speaking of Selfridges, this department store also has their own advent calendar – Enchanted Spells. It’s filled with 24 luxurious miniatures of high-end beauty products across makeup, skincare and fragrances from some of the world’s best beauty brands including Lancôme, Yves Saint Laurent, Kiehl's, Victor & Rolf and Urban Decay to name a few. Available of course at Selfridges for £85.

5. Liberty Advent Calendar

This advent calendar from Liberty, another big department store in London, houses luxury beauty treats and is worth £420!  Inside the drawers you can find some of the most-loved brands from their beauty hall, such as NARS, Diptyque, Dermalogica, Laura Mercier and Kiehl’s. The calendar is filled with 10 full-sized products, deluxe samples and exclusive treatment vouchers. Available at Liberty  for  £149 – at least was, because it’s already sold out on their website!

6. Jo Malone Advent Calendar

This is the most expensive beauty calendar – it costs £250, so it’s definitely for the Jo Malone lovers! Every drawer is filled with a luxurious Jo Malone miniature fragrance or a body cream – except the 24th drawer, where the larger 50 ml body cream is hidden. ;) The calendar  was available at Harrods.

L'Occitane 13 Pampering Treats From Provence

You might be surprised why there’re only 13 door, instead of 24 in L’Occitane’s advent calendar. It’s because in Prevence, where the brand comes from, there’s a holiday tradition of having 13 desserts on the festive table. Inside there’s a mix of their most popular beauty products including fragrance, body and skincare treats. Available at L’Occitane for £45.

It’s very hard for me to decide which of these calendars made the biggest impression on me, because they’re all amazing! My first thought was that I would chose the Ciaté’s one, because in my opinion there’s no such a thing as to many nail polishes (don’t be surprised: I’m just a woman). However, if I had to buy one of these calendars, it would definitely be the Selfridges’ or Liberty’s calendar because of the variety of the products and possibility of trying out all of them. And what’s even more, these two calendars would make me a huge pleasure even if I saw them under Christmas tree (Santa, I’ve been a good girl this year...). ;)

The first little window can be opened on the 1st of December, so if you like counting down to Christmas with an advent calendar, you’d better hurry, because now is the last moment for getting one of them for yourself. Especially if you are a beauty lover just like me! :)

So, which one would you like to get? Or maybe you already have your own calendar? :)

  1. Advent calendar for girls! Wow! Some ideas that a girl would definitely love to do. I really liked the candy coated countdown; I will surely take up one of these unique ideas for my niece’s party that is in one of the venues in Los Angeles. Can you suggest some more ideas for a 12 year old girl’s birthday party?
